08.30.2019 – New Testament: 1Co 10.25–26
To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 10.14–33 on August 30, In the year of our Lord 2019
By Don Ruhl
A question existed during the first century on whether Christians should eat meat sold at the market after the food had been sacrificed to an idol. Under most circumstances we can (See First Corinthians 8 for an exception). Paul encouraged the brethren:
Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness.”
– 1 Corinthian 10.25–26
Idols are dead and false gods, but the true God created the earth and all its fullness. Therefore, the meat sold at the market was His creation and He said that we are free to eat it.
Questions:
- Do you eat meat?
- Are you a vegetarian?
- Do you have problems with meat-eaters or vegetarians?
