Suffering for the brethren

Colossians Bible Background

New Testament: Col 1.24

To read the Bible in a year, read Colossians 1 on October 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

By Don Ruhl

Jesus suffered for the church we know, but has anyone else suffered for the church? Yes, listen to Paul:

I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church…

– Colossians 1.24

Not only Paul, but many through the centuries have suffered that the church might have what it needs, such as an English Bible. The Bible is so readily available to us now that we may not realize that at one time others gave their lives that we might have access to a Bible. Thank God for it and for them!

Questions:

  • What are you willing to suffer for the church?
  • What does the church mean to you?
