New Testament: 2Th 2.1–3
To read the Bible in a year, read Second Thessalonians 2 on October 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Did you know the New Testament prophesies that Jesus shall return? In fact, during the first century, people claimed that the day of Christ had already arrived,
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.
– 2 Thessalonians 2.1–2
Paul wanted the Thessalonians to know that two things had to happen before that history-ending Day occurs,
Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition.
– 2 Thessalonians 2.3
- First, there had to be the falling away.
- Second, the man of sin had to be revealed.
Roughly 1,960 years after Paul wrote those words, we can now say those two things have happened. There was a general falling away of the church, culminating in what we call the Dark Ages, and the man of sin reigned supreme in that Apostate Church.
Therefore, that means the Day of Christ could be at any time. Live as though that Day might be today.
- Are you prepared for the Lord to return?
- Why do the date-setters keep failing?
