Old Testament: Nah 2.5–7
To read the Bible in a year, read Nahum on December 22, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Nineveh had been around for over two millennium, and as mighty as the city had become, it also sinned mightily and for that, the Lord brought it down:
He remembers his nobles;
They stumble in their walk;
They make haste to her walls,
And the defense is prepared.
The gates of the rivers are opened,
And the palace is dissolved.
It is decreed:
She shall be led away captive,
She shall be brought up;
And her maidservants shall lead her as with the voice of doves,
Beating their breasts.
– Nahum 2.5–7
Nineveh would try to save itself, but since the Lord had made a decree against them, it would fall, even the palace as though made of sand and dissolving in the water. No city and no nation can become so great that it cannot fall, but all who sin and remain in sin, will meet Nineveh’s end.
