New Testament: Rev 14.4–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Revelation 14 on December 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
John saw 144,000 people standing with the Lamb on Mount Zion in heaven. Then John wrote of what they were doing and he identified them for us:
These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God.
– Revelation 14.4–5
Many people get caught up in the number and they try to figure out who these people are. However, we have to recognize that the Book of Revelation is a book of signs. We ought to be able to see that right here in this passage.
Does anyone believe that the 144,000 are only males who never married? The point of this passage is to show the kind of people on Mount Zion with Jesus. They did not engage in fornication, nor did they practice deceit, but they followed the Lamb wherever He went and since He is now in heaven, that is where they went.
If you want to make it to heaven, do what they did; purify yourself from the sin of the world and follow Jesus wherever He leads you.
- Are you following Jesus?
- Have you been baptized for the remission of your sins?
