Jesus Warned Us

Matthew Bible Background

New Testament: Matt 24.23–25

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 24.23–51 on February 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020

By Don Ruhl

No one should be led astray by false christs and false prophets, because Jesus warned us that they will be coming:

“Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.”

– Matthew 24.23–25

False christs and false prophets will not appear to be false. Their disguise will be good. Their arguments and works will be very good, deceiving, if possible, the least likely people.

Therefore, bury your nose in the Scriptures that you might know all things, preventing anyone from successfully deceiving you. Just remember that someone will try to deceive you, and he or she will seem like the genuine article at first, but remember what Jesus said. Do not think you cannot be deceived or that someone will not try it. If you think that way, you are already susceptible.

Questions:

  • Have you figured out before that someone was a false teacher?
  • Has a false teacher deceived you in the past?
