New Testament: Matt 28.4
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 28 on February 15, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
An angel descended from the Lord out of heaven and rolled away the stone from in front of the door to the tomb of Jesus, and then sat on the stone. The angel’s face appeared as lightning and his garments were as white as snow. How did the Roman guards react to this sight?
And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
– Matthew 28.4
It is not surprising that they would shake with fear and then out of fear fall as though they had died. Seeing an angel is not something that humans experience everyday, truly, angelic visits were few even in the times recorded in the Bible.
However, this was a very special event. Jesus of Nazareth had arisen from the dead and this angel would announce to the women who were on their way to the tomb what had happened.
- What would you do if you saw an angel?
- Were Roman guards typically fearful men?
