New Testament: Mark 14.44
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 14.26–50 on March 13, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
Jesus had revealed to His 12 disciples that one of them would betray Him, but He did not reveal how the betrayal would work. As the story continues we learn that Judas was the one. He worked out a sign that the enemies of Jesus might know who He was:
Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him and lead Him away safely.”
– Mark 14.44
The others would not have guessed that it would have been Judas because he greeted Jesus as a friend, or at least that is what Judas may have been thinking, and he may have thought that he could hide his intentions from Jesus. However, Judas failed miserably. Betraying a friend with a kiss was such evil that even Judas later realized what he had done, and he took his own life.
