New Testament: Luke 9.23
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 9.1–36 on April 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
Salvation is a free gift, yet, following Jesus requires a great cost. He once said to people following Him:
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
– Luke 9.23
He paid the cost of denying Himself, and He would take up His cross, and He would die for those very people. He never asked us to do something that He Himself was not willing to do first. For denying Himself and taking His cross, He now reigns in heaven. If you and I want to go to heaven, we have to listen to what He said here and do it.
Questions:
- How often did Jesus say we must take up our crosses?
- Do you desire to go after Him?
