Old Testament: 1Sa 2.18–21
To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 1–3 on April 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
Hannah wanted a male child, and the Lord gave her one, but then she gave that son to the Lord forever. Once she weaned her son, she brought him to Eli the high priest and she would visit her son annually. See how she continued to remember the Lord and her son, and what the Lord gave her:
But Samuel ministered before the LORD, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod. Moreover his mother used to make him a little robe, and bring it to him year by year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “The LORD give you descendants from this woman for the loan that was given to the LORD.” Then they would go to their own home. And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the LORD.
– 1 Samuel 2.18–21
By giving her son to the Lord, she also gave to Israel a judge and prophet, and in so doing, she also gave the world a great man, and even now Christians admire the man that Samuel became.
Hannah asked of the Lord and then gave to the Lord that which He gave her.
Do the same and watch what the Lord does.
