By Don Ruhl
Israel provoked the Lord and the Lord allowed Satan to use David to number Israel that David might see how powerful his army was. For his failure to trust the Lord, the Lord sent an angel with a plague to punish Israel, but the Lord finally saw that Israel had suffered enough,
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell. And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was destroying, the LORD looked and relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who was destroying, “It is enough; now restrain your hand.”
– 1 Chronicles 21.14–15a
Great are the mercies of our Lord, because the wages of sin is death and once we have sinned, we have forfeited our right to continue living. Yet, as He did with Israel, so He continues to do with the church and Christians, He shows us mercy daily. Praise the Lord!
