By Don Ruhl

King David prepared Israel to receive his son Solomon as the new king, and the awesome work of building the temple of God:

Furthermore King David said to all the assembly: “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced; and the work is great, because the temple is not for man but for the LORD God.”

– 1 Chronicles 29.1

He may have been young and inexperienced, and had a work to do that none of them had ever done before, but God chose Solomon to be king. Therefore, he would be able to do the job, even as a young and inexperienced man, and Israel would have done well to support him, which they did.

Questions:

  • What do you think of young and inexperienced workers?
  • For whom would the temple not be built and for whom would it be built?
