Old Testament: Psa 119.73–80
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 119.49–104 on August 22, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
Do you not think that our bodies are awesome designs? Every time I learn something new about the human body, it leaves me speechless and further persuades me that we are a creation, and that we did not evolve. If that is true, listen to what the psalmist said:
Your hands have made me and fashioned me;
Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.– Psalm 119.73
See how the psalmist thought? God, you made me and fashioned me. Give me understanding because I know that you made my whole person, not just my body, but my inward nature also. Therefore, give me understanding so that I can do those things for which you created me!
Therefore, it was logical for the psalmist to continue to speak to the Lord of his word:
Those who fear You will be glad when they see me,
Because I have hoped in Your word.I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are right,
And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.Let, I pray, Your merciful kindness be for my comfort,
According to Your word to Your servant.Let Your tender mercies come to me, that I may live;
For Your law is my delight.Let the proud be ashamed,
For they treated me wrongfully with falsehood;
But I will meditate on Your precepts.Let those who fear You turn to me,
Those who know Your testimonies.Let my heart be blameless regarding Your statutes,
That I may not be ashamed.– Psalm 119.74–80
The psalmist knew that he needed God’s word to live. Therefore, he honored the word of God and in so doing, he also honored God his Creator.
