New Testament: 1Co 11.26
To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 11.17–34 on September 1, In the year of our Lord 2020
By Don Ruhl
The Lord’s Supper reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus made of Himself and that the sacrifice was in violence, for He spilled His blood. However, the Lord’s Supper also announces that Jesus will return:
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
– 1 Corinthians 11.26
The Lord did not say keep this Supper until a certain time, but the church continues to observe it until the time that Jesus returns. We know that Jesus died, but we eat the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week, showing that His body did not stay dead, but He arose from the dead. He arose to return. Therefore, His Supper announces every time we eat it, that He shall return.
- Are you prepared for Jesus to return?
- If not, what do you need to do to get prepared?
