Old Testament: Isa 36.7
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 34–36 on October 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
The king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh, the leader of his army, to Jerusalem to persuade the Jews not to fight, but to give up. Part of what the Rabshakeh said was misrepresenting King Hezekiah of Judah:
“But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and said to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar’?”
– Isaiah 36.7
Yes, the Jews and Hezekiah trusted in Jehovah God, but Hezekiah not torn down altars to God as the Rabshakeh had charged. The Rabshakeh sought to damage their trust in God, but they remained resolute, and for that, God destroyed the Assyrian army.
Questions:
- Do you trust in God even in the face of the world against you?
- Do you believe that God is always with you?
