Many people make the mistake of believing that the Old Testament is only about Israel and that nothing in it has relevance for today. However, notice this reading from Jeremiah’s Book and see how it speaks of the way that God works among the nations:
“The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.”
– Jeremiah 18.7–10
Although that is in the Hebrew Bible, it still shows how God operates among the nations, and there is every reason to believe that He still works in the way that this Old Testament passage states. As you can see, God spoke of more than just Israel. It includes your nation too!
Questions:
- What do you think God thinks of your nation?
- What can you do to help your nation get closer to God?
