Old Testament: Eze 33.17–20
To read the Bible in a year, read Ezekiel 32–33 on November 24, In the year of our Lord 2020
By Don Ruhl
The Lord said that the son would not die for the father’s sin. Israel responded to that by saying that the way of the Lord was not fair! They actually thought the son should suffer for the father’s guilt. The Lord spoke back to them,
“Yet the children of your people say, The way of the LORD is not fair. But it is their way which is not fair! When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die because of it. But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is lawful and right, he shall live because of it. Yet you say, The way of the LORD is not fair. O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his own ways.”
– Ezekiel 33.17–20
Notice that the Lord would not change His ways to appease Israel, for the Lord does what is righteous and fair, but man, even Israel, does not. The people were confused in their thinking, and the Lord would not go along with it, but He would continue to do what was right and fair.
- Do you believe the Lord is not fair?
- Have you lived a sinless life?
- If not, how can you charge the Lord with not being fair?
