The Lord Himself would dwell among His people

Old Testament: Zec 2.10–12

To read the Bible in a year, read Zechariah 1–3 on December 26, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020

By Don Ruhl

Imagine being Adam or Eve and seeing God in the Garden of Eden. Yet, many people did see God live among them but did not know it. Zechariah prophesied:

“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the LORD. “Many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. And the LORD will take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem.”

– Zechariah 2.10–12

Some did know who He was, as Thomas once confessed to Jesus of Nazareth (John 20.28), and even from among the nations, the prophet showed that people would join themselves to the Lord and He would consider them His people.

Questions:

  • Have you joined yourself to the Lord? (See Galatians 3.26–28.)
  • Do you realize that the Lord dwells in our midst?
