Old Testament: Gen 3.22–23
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 3–5 on January 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
God created paradise on earth for the first human pair, but as you know they broke the only restriction that God had placed on them, and so He had to drive them out of the Garden of Eden. However, notice how He spoke:
Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.
– Genesis 3.22–23
It was as though He could not finish His sentence because He had choked up. He said what He wanted to prevent, but we would expect that He then would have said what He was going to do.
Truly, He knew fully what Adam and Eve had introduced to the creation and all the misery that would follow. He was undoubtedly very sad.
Questions:
- How do you respond to sin?
- Did you know that in heaven we can eat from the true tree of life? (See Revelation 22)
