Old Testament: Gen 37.23–25a
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 36–37 on January 15, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
The hatred of Joseph’s brothers for him became so strong that when he found them, they took him and put him in a pit:
So it came to pass, when Joseph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colors that was on him. Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it. And they sat down to eat a meal.
– Genesis 37.23–25a
That last sentence really said it all. It shows just how callous these great-grandsons of Abraham had become to their own flesh and blood, and to their father, whom they knew loved Joseph.
Do everything you can to prevent hatred from entering into your heart.
Questions:
- Have you hated someone so much that you would have killed him or her if you had the opportunity?
- If you got over your hatred, how did you do it?
