Keeping the camp clean

Old Testament: Numbers 5.1–4

To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 5–6 on February 21, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

The Lord taught Israel and the world something about His presence when He instructed Israel in this manner:

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse. You shall put out both male and female; you shall put them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camps in the midst of which I dwell.” And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the LORD spoke to Moses, so the children of Israel did.

– Numbers 5.1–4

The Lord used the flesh to illustrate what He wanted in the spirit, that He dwells among His people when they keep the unclean outside of the camp. Later, Jesus would meet people such as lepers, showing that it was not the flesh, but that the Lord taught them to see the necessity of spiritual cleanliness before Him.
