Humility Before Jesus

New Testament: Mark 5.21–23

To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 5.21–43 on February 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

Many people surrounded Jesus, including a ruler of the synagogue:

Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet…

– Mark 5.21–22

A ruler fell at the feet of a carpenter/teacher! The ruler also begged Jesus to come and heal the ruler’s daughter:

and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.”

– Mark 5.23

The man got what he wanted because he humbled himself before Jesus, and the man did that knowing what Jesus could do. The man had faith in Jesus.

Questions:

  • Could you literally fall before God?
  • Have you ever done it in prayer?
