What good is salt without season?

New Testament: Luke 14.34

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 14.25–35 on April 14, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

Jesus pictured disciples who do not take seriously their discipleship, making this comparison:

“Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?”

– Luke 14.34

Answer the question. If salt loses its flavor, what good is it? Would you still try to use it to season your food?

Questions:

  • What good is a disciple who has lost his flavor?

  1. I knew of a blog, that had the word “salt” in its title, which promoted the entire doctrine of Calvinism. I always thought it odd because if, you’re “salt” you can’t lose your flavor, and if you’re not “salt” you never will be … at least that’s what Calvinism teaches; but not Jesus.
