Old Testament: 1Sa 28.16
To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 27–29 on April 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Saul did not obey the Lord. Therefore, when Saul was in distressed about a war with the Philistines, the Lord would not answer him. Why should the Lord answer the prayers of the disobedient? Anyway, since the Lord would not answer Saul, he sought help elsewhere, going to a medium, hoping that she could call up Samuel.
And it happened. Samuel then said to Saul:
“So why do you ask me, seeing the LORD has departed from you and has become your enemy?”
– 1 Samuel 28.16
Samuel would not give Saul a favorable answer since the Lord would not. This just shows how far gone the mind of Saul was, that he believed he could continue in disobedience and the Lord would bless him.
Questions:
- What had the Lord become to Saul?
- Is the purpose of your life to obey God or to find ways and reasons for not obeying him?
