New Testament: Luke 20.23
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 20.1–26 on April 25, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Who are humans, which are mere creatures made of the dust of the earth, to put the Lord, who is their Creator, to the test? Yet, it happens every day. Consider an incident when some of the Lord’s enemies presented him with a question on whether they should pay taxes to Caesar or not, and see how he began his response:
But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test Me?”
– Luke 20.23
First, he knew what they were doing, that they were being crafty rather than asking an honest question, for his enemies already knew that they did not want to pay taxes to Caesar. No, they wanted to catch him either rebelling against the Romans or rebelling against their teachings.
Questions:
- Do you pay taxes?
- What is your attitude toward paying taxes?
- Do you believe that we should pay the government to use what is theirs?
