Speaking of Abijam, the son of Rehoboam and grandson of Solomon, the Bible says:
And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
– 1 Kings 15.6
Abijam knew war because, as his father reigned over Judah, and Jeroboam reigned over Israel, and the two were constantly at war. The sad thing is, they were all brethren, descendants of Jacob.
The question is: Why was there war between Israel and Judah? Why was there war between these two kings in particular?
Israel was wandering off into idolatry and the Lord would not let them live in peace. Why should they live in peace when they were, at one time, the one nation that proclaimed the one true and living God?
No, they had to see the consequences for turning their backs on the Creator of all things.
Questions:
- Are you faithful to the Lord right now?
- Have you ever fallen away?
