The Christ remains forever, yet would die

New Testament: John 12.34

To read the Bible in a year, read John 12.20–50 on June 1, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

Jesus prophesied that he would be lifted up from the earth (John 12.32), which referenced his manner of death, crucifixion at the hands of the Romans, and the Jews picked up on that reference and they answered him:

“We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

– John 12.34

The Christ would remain forever, because he would rise from the dead, and then he would be with his followers until the end of the world. He currently reigns over the earth and the church from heaven, and his followers know that he lives and reigns!
