Old Testament: Neh 13.14
To read the Bible in a year, read Nehemiah 12–13 on June 20, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Nehemiah gladly spent and was spent on behalf of the house of God, in particular as he rebuilt the wall and gates of Jerusalem that the city and the temple might be safe. Therefore, he spoke this short prayer to God:
Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for its services!
– Nehemiah 13.14
Of course, what he said about his good deeds for the house of God and for its services was true. He knew that God saw everything, which is why he asked God not to wipe out his good deeds, but to continue to remember them and to bless him accordingly.
In Nehemiah’s mind, nothing on this earth was more important than the city of God and God’s house within it.

- Can you utter a similar prayer for yourself?
- What is the most important thing on this earth to you?
