Do not become a slave of sin

New Testament: Rom 6.16

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 6 on August 5, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

Some people call it addiction, but the Bible pictures it another way, and we would do better to speak as the Bible speaks. Listen to this:

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

– Romans 6.16

The Bible calls it slavery. It is not a disease. It is slavery because we obey our master and that master is sin, or you can name a specific sin.

It is also slavery when we obey righteousness. Righteousness becomes our master and we want to obey it.

This reveals the key to overcoming sin. See yourself as a slave and pick your master, then tell yourself frequently that you serve righteousness and not sin.

Questions:

  • How have you overcome sin?
  • Have you been baptized as Paul wrote in Romans 6?
