Old Testament: Song 7.9b
To read the Bible in a year, read Song of Solomon 6–8 on September 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Solomon had pictured the body of the Shulamite, comparing it with various images of the earth. The last thing that he said was that he wanted, “the roof of your mouth [to be] like the best wine” (Song 7.9a). [The “roof of the mouth,” being the palate]. Then she responded, saying:
The wine goes down smoothly for my beloved,
Moving gently the lips of sleepers.
– Song 7.9b
Therefore, she complemented or finished that thought, that the wine of her mouth would go down smoothly, and that it could move the lips of sleepers, perhaps referring to daydreaming. Love is happy for the loved one.
