Old Testament: Isa 5.18–19
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 4–6 on September 25, In the year of our Lord 2021
By Don Ruhl
Beginning at Isaiah 5.8 the prophet announced “woes,” upon certain people for their sins, including this:
Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity,
And sin as if with a cart rope;
That say, “Let Him make speed and hasten His work,
That we may see it;
And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come,
That we may know it.”
– Isaiah 5.18–19
They added to their sins by challenging God to hurry up and do something so that they could see it, as though He was their entertainer! Truly many people see Him that way these days. To them, religion has to be an entertaining experience, or it has to be something where God does their bidding instantly. They have no idea of the contempt they have for Him when they treat Him in that manner.
Questions:
- Have you held God in contempt?
- Who is the servant: You? or God?
