Much of the message of the prophets is rebuking, condemning, and foretelling the coming wrath of God, but the prophets also spoke of God’s relentless desire to bless man, such as in this passage from Isaiah:
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:
“Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation,
A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation;
Whoever believes will not act hastily.
Also I will make justice the measuring line,
And righteousness the plummet;
The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
And the waters will overflow the hiding place.”
– Isaiah 28.16–17
Regardless of the sins of Israel and the nations, God would still do what He promised and He fulfilled this promise in Jesus of Nazareth, as Peter had told the Jewish leaders (Acts 4.11), and as other New Testament writers made application: Matthew 21.42; Mark 12.10; Luke 20.17; Romans 9.33; 10.11; Eph 2.20; First Peter 2.6–8.
