New Testament: Phi 1.19–20
To read the Bible in a year, read Philippians 1 on October 5, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Paul wrote to the Philippian church from a Roman prison, but he knew that he would not be there forever:
For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
– Philippians 1.19–20
He had full confidence that he would be delivered from prison because the brethren were praying for him, and he knew that the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ would see to it. However, did you notice what he also said, that the deliverance would happen by life or by death. He would be delivered in one of two ways: Either while he was still living or by death, for in death he would be free from the prison cell!
Questions:
- Have you thought of death as a form of deliverance?
- How do you view your future death?
