Old Testament: Jer 2.14–17
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 1–2 on October 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Israel had sunk very low. Therefore, the nations treated Israel worse than what they should have treated the nation. Why did that happen?
“Is Israel a servant?
Is he a homeborn slave?
Why is he plundered?
The young lions roared at him, and growled;
They made his land waste;
His cities are burned, without inhabitant.
Also the people of Noph and Tahpanhes
Have broken the crown of your head.
Have you not brought this on yourself,
In that you have forsaken the LORD your God
When He led you in the way?”
– Jeremiah 2.14–17
No, Israel was not a slave! So then the question was: Why then was Israel plundered? The answer is that Israel had brought it upon itself because they had forsaken the Lord.
Questions:
- Why do people continue to think that they can do better without the Lord?
- Have you ever forsaken the Lord?
- If so, what brought you back?
