New Testament: 1Ti 4.4–5
To read the Bible in a year, read First Timothy 4 on October 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Paul prophesied that a major apostasy would occur in the church. In First Timothy 4.1–3, he listed some of the characteristics of this movement when people would not completely leave the church, but would pervert various teachings of the Lord.
The last one Paul mentioned was that the apostasy would command abstaining from certain foods. However, the apostle stated that God had created those foods to be received by us along with giving thanks to Him for those foods. Paul said those who believe and know the truth will know what to do.
Moreover, he said concerning food, in particular meat:
For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
– 1 Timothy 4.4-5
If God made an edible food, we are free to eat it and no one can command us not to eat it. As long as we receive it with thanksgiving, the food is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
- Are you a picky eater or will you eat what is placed before you?
- Do you give thanks for your food?
