Old Testament: Jer 30.1–3
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 29–30 on October 31, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
The Lord used Jeremiah to tell the people of Judah of the upcoming destruction of their nation and the city of Jerusalem by the hands of the Babylonians.
They did not believe Jeremiah, but it would, and did happen and then they would accept that he had spoken the word of the Lord.
Then the opposite would happen. They would not believe the promise of a return from captivity back into their land. Therefore, the Lord had Jeremiah write down the promise so that when it came to pass, they would again know that the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah:
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, “Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. For behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah, says the LORD. And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.”
– Jeremiah 30.1–3
And these things have been written that we might know the Lord keeps his promises, whether of the day of doom or of the day of prosperity.
