New Testament: Rev 5.4–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Revelation 5 on December 14, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Put yourself in the place of John the apostle when he received visions that we call the Book of Revelation. Can you imagine what an emotional experience that must have been?
John saw Jesus glorified and then heard him speak messages to seven churches. After that John saw the throne of God and magnificent things around the throne. One thing John saw was a book in the hand of God, but an angel asked who was worthy to open that book. No one in heaven was found (Revelation 5.1–3).
That was the first negative thing John had seen in heaven and with his emotions already at their peak, such an announcement that no one was worthy, bothered him deeply:
“So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.”
– Revelation 5.4
However, his tears did not last. Someone wiped away John’s tears, for there are no tears in heaven:
But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
– Revelation 5.5
The worthiness of Jesus shall dominate the rest of the Book of Revelation. Listen and see the things associated with him in this Book and take into your heart just who Jesus is.
Questions:
- How do you picture heaven in your mind?
- What do you want to see and to hear the most in heaven?
