The Lord made provision for accidental deaths

Old Testament: Num 35.29

To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 34–36 on March 5, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Sometimes a person will kill another without any intention of killing. It was simply an accident, yet, the family of the deceased may still feel rage against the one who caused the accident and may take action against him.

Knowing of the potential of people to think this way, the Lord made provisions for the manslayer during the days of Israel, setting up six cities of refuge, three on each side of The Jordan, where the manslayer could flee to.

Then the Lord said:

“And these things shall be a statute of judgment to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.”

– Numbers 35.29

The Lord provided guidelines for Israel to have peace in their nation for every generation, as long as every generation followed what he outlined.

Questions:

  • What can you do that your nation might follow the Lord?
  • Have you accidentally killed someone?
  • What did you do about it?
