New Testament: Luke 3.34
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 3 on March 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 20212
By Don Ruhl
When I read the genealogy of Jesus, it amazes me that it can be traced all the way back to Adam, although that would have been the case with all the Jews at that time. However, no Jew or anyone else can do that now after the Romans destroyed the temple, along with the genealogical records. Note this part of the genealogy. Jesus was:
…the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor…
– Luke 3.34
We can read of all five of those men in the Book of Genesis. These men lived a long time ago. Abraham was about as far removed in time from Jesus as we are, yet, all Jews at that time could acknowledge that Jesus could trace his ancestors back to Abraham and even further.
Questions:
- How far back can you go with your genealogy?
- Why is it important that we have the genealogy of Jesus?
