God keeps his covenant, man must keep his covenant

Old Testament: Jdg 2.1–3

To read the Bible in a year, read Judges 1–2 on March 30, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Israel wavered constantly between following the Lord and following the various idols in the Land of Canaan. The Angel of the Lord reminded them of what they had done, and that he would no longer drive out the Canaanites:

Then the Angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: “I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, I will never break My covenant with you. And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this? Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be thorns in your side, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”

– Judges 2.1–3

The Lord would keep his part of the covenant, but would Israel? No, they did not, and they suffered for it. However, Israel was not unique among humanity, for you just have to witness world history and you will see that few care for the ways of the Lord.

Yet, he still loves us and some of us turn to him. Let us continue to be the light that the world needs to see, that they might turn to the Lord, that he might forgive them and accept them.

Questions:

  • Do you have some people in mind that you would like to see saved?
  • What are you doing to see that it happens?
