When a person comes back to his right mind

New Testament: Luke 15.17

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 15.11–32 on April 16, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

Sometimes people do things that they normally would not do, but some of those people wake up and realize what they have done and that leads to great change in their lives. Such is the story of the Prodigal Son told by Jesus.

A young man asked for his portion of his inheritance and the father gave it. However, the young man wasted his inheritance on wild living, until he had nothing left.

He then went to a hog farmer and sought work. The hog farmer put him to work, feeding the pigs, but the young man became so hungry that he wanted to eat what the pigs were eating.

Suddenly, he realized what he was doing, what he had done, and how good he had it back home. Jesus said:

“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!’”

– Luke 15.17

He realized that home was not as bad as he thought that it was, in fact, home was a really good place, and his new adventure that he thought would be wonderful, turned out to be horrible.

It all started when “he came to himself,” and he looked at himself and saw his miserable condition. Finally, he went back home and found how much his father loved him.

Questions:

  • What did it take to make him come to himself?
  • What does it take to make you come to yourself?
