Old Testament: 1Ki 3.28
To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 3–5 on May 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
God asked King Solomon what he wanted. He said that he needed understanding and discernment, and God gave those things to the king. Shortly thereafter, Israel saw Solomon’s wisdom at work, and the writer of the Book of Kings shows us how the people reacted:
And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had rendered; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.
– 1 Kings 3.28
They feared because Solomon operated with the wisdom of God, and they knew that they could not fool him or make false accusations against someone.
Reading First Kings 3 made a deep impression upon me, and I prayed verse 9 for all the political leaders of the United States of America. May they all see their deep need for God, and his understanding and discernment, leading them to make proper judgments. Then Americans will react as the children of Israel did to Solomon’s wisdom.
Questions:
- Have you asked God for wisdom?
- If you have, what reasons did you give him for why you need wisdom?
