King Ahab believed that a territory, Ramoth in Gilead, was his for the taking and he asked King Jehoshaphat to join him. 

Jehoshaphat explained that he was united with Israel, but he wanted to do something first: 

And the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, but we hesitate to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?” So he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight at Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire for the word of the LORD today.”

We question why the righteous Jehoshaphat associated with the evil Ahab, nevertheless, Jehoshaphat had a good and right request. He wanted to know what the Lord thought about taking Ramoth in Gilead. 

He set an example for us, that we might always seek the Lord’s will and wisdom, for how can we expect to have good success on the earth he created, if we do not consider his wishes?
