Jesus came into the world to be king, but the Father would make Jesus king and not men,

Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.

– John 6.15

They did not understand yet, that His kingdom is not of this world, but of the Spirit. Moreover, He submitted to the will of His Father, not the will of man. Therefore, He refused to be the kind of king that they wanted.
