Jesus taught that His disciples have to eat and drink Him, but that offended some of them, because they found it a hard saying. John then wrote, 

When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you?”

– John 6.61 

Jesus has always seemed compassionate to me, and loving, and easy to follow, but not everyone sees Him that way. I once had a Bible study with a woman who hated Jesus because of the hard things He taught.
