New Testament: John 12.1–3
To read the Bible in a year, read John 12.1–19 on May 31, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, Jesus went to the home of Lazarus and his sisters. Watch all three of them show love to Jesus, but in different ways:
Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
– John 12.1–3
Martha showed love by serving the Lord. Lazarus showed love by sitting with the Lord. Mary showed love by anointing the feet of the Lord. All three ways were good ways of showing love. None of the siblings despised what the other did (at least in this episode), nor did one of them claim to show a greater love. They all loved Jesus and showed it in special ways.
