We want to praise the Lord, but we have a tendency to want to do it our way, whereas if we truly want to praise him, we will praise him according to his character, not ours. David said: 

I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness,
And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

– Psalm 7.17 

We praise the Lord in harmony with his righteousness, because praise is not about us, it is not about what makes us feel good, but it is about him.
