Old Testament: Psa 18.2–3
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 17–18 on July 15, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Think of all the things that the Lord does for us. Then picture him doing those things with images in your mind of what he is to you. This is what David did:
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.
– Psalm 18.2–3
Use this passage to picture in your mind the Lord as your rock, fortress, deliverer, strength, shield, horn, and stronghold. For example, take the second one: The Lord as a fortress. You have either seen fortresses in person or you have seen them in photos or movies. Think of how they function, primarily by keeping those inside safe with all the supplies that they need during an attack.
Then see the Lord functioning like that for you.
That being the case with all of David’s images of the Lord, know that you can call upon the Lord, and that makes him worthy of praise, because he will save you from your enemies and from your troubles.
Questions:
- Of the images that David provided, which one do you favor?
- Do you have enemies?
