Old Testament: Psa 35.4–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 34–35 on July 21, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Someone was always after David, and it was because he followed God, leading God-haters to hate David too. In Psalm 35, he pled with the Lord that he would fight against those who were fighting against David. He said what he wanted the Lord to do to them:
Let those be put to shame and brought to dishonor
Who seek after my life;
Let those be turned back and brought to confusion
Who plot my hurt.
Let them be like chaff before the wind,
And let the angel of the LORD chase them.
Let their way be dark and slippery,
And let the angel of the LORD pursue them.
For without cause they have hidden their net for me in a pit,
Which they have dug without cause for my life.
Let destruction come upon him unexpectedly,
And let his net that he has hidden catch himself;
Into that very destruction let him fall.
And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD;
It shall rejoice in His salvation.
– Psalm 35.4–9
The Lord included David’s words because the Lord is showing us that he would do as David requested, and he will do as we have requested.
In the western nations of the world, governments, academia, entertainment, and many other sources fight God’s people. Let us pray to him about it as David did.
Questions:
- What can you do to show the world the truth?
- What do you say to God about the people who are attempting to silence God in public life?
