Old Testament: Psa 68.17–18
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 68–69 on August 2, In the year of our Lord 2022
By Don Ruhl
What would it look like to see chariots from God escorting him? We might also ask, Where would they escort him? Listen to Psalm 68,
The chariots of God are twenty thousand,
Even thousands of thousands;
The Lord is among them as in Sinai, in the Holy Place.
You have ascended on high,
You have led captivity captive;
You have received gifts among men,
Even from the rebellious,
That the LORD God might dwell there.
– Psalm 68.17–18
See 20,000 chariots escorting him. No, see thousands of thousands bringing him somewhere. Such a sight would leave us speechless.
Now see him escorted off the earth and into heaven, for that is what this passage depicts. It shows the ascension of Jesus Christ, and Acts 1 says that a cloud received him, and Daniel 7 had prophesied of the majestic sight. It must be that the clouds included the glorious chariots of heaven coming to retrieve the Son of God back into heaven. Ephesians 4 also quotes this passage from Psalm 68.
Questions:
- What have you pictured of the ascension of Jesus?
- Do you imagine seeing him in heaven on his throne?
